A4 vs US Letter for 9-Pocket Binder Pages: Which to Print?
A4 and US Letter are close but not identical. Here's which to use for extended binder art, why it matters, and how to avoid a scaling mistake.

If you’ve ever opened a print dialog and hesitated between A4 and US Letter, you’re not alone. They’re close enough to look interchangeable and different enough to cause problems if you pick wrong. Here’s the short version for binder art.
The two sizes, side by side

A4 is narrower and taller; US Letter is wider and shorter. The difference is small — but it’s enough that a page laid out for one will have different margins on the other.
The rule: match the pack to your paper
Every extended binder art design ships with both an A4 and a US Letter PDF. The card slices inside are the exact same physical size on both files — that’s the whole point. So the rule is simple:
Print the PDF that matches the paper in your tray, at 100% / actual size.
Load A4 paper → print the A4 PDF. Load US Letter → print the US Letter PDF. Do that and the pockets line up every time.
The mistake to avoid
The problem is almost never the paper — it’s “Fit to page.” If you print the A4 file on US Letter (or vice versa) and let the printer rescale it to fit, every card slice shrinks or grows a little, and suddenly nothing lines up with your pockets.

Which should you use?
Use whatever’s standard where you live and what your printer is loaded with:
- Outside North America? A4.
- In the US or Canada? US Letter.
- Using a print shop? Tell them which file you’re sending and to print at actual size — both are included, so hand over the one that matches their stock.
